Planning and Zoning

The Township’s Planning and Zoning Department

Responsibilities

This office is responsible for long and short term community development and also specific projects being developed in Muskegon Township. Zoning ordinance enforcement and revision, processing of applications for variance, special use permits, site plan reviews and other development issues are also the responsibilities of this office.

Commercial Site Plans are reviewed at the Planning Commission Meeting which meets at 6:00PM the 2nd Monday of each month in the Township Board Room. Special meetings may be held upon request for a fee.

Zone Change applications, Special Uses and PUD requests are reviewed by the Planning Commission and their recommendation is made to the Township Board for ultimate approval or denial. Application processing time is approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on Tuesdays at 5:00PM in the Township Board Room upon request. Application processing time is approximately 3 weeks.
