Muskegon Charter Township COVID-19 Mitigation Measures

April 6, 2020

The number one priority of Muskegon Charter Township is the health and safety of our employees and citizens. With Governor Whitmer’s Emergency Declaration it has become imperative that local officials plan for the potential community transmission of COVID- 19 and take the necessary precautions to protect our residents and staff in an attempt to slow the transmission of this virus.

Effective March 16, 2020 Muskegon Township is limiting certain operations in order to minimize the risks of the COVID-19 virus. The following operational changes will be in effect until the Governors Executive orders allow differently.

  1. Muskegon Township Hall will be closed to all public. All business that can be conducted via U.S. Mail, or the drop box should be done in such a manner. There is a drop-box located outside of the main upper entrance of Township Hall; such business includes, but is not limited to, utility payments, absentee ballot applications, and building permits of any type. Payments can also be made online and ACH payments can be arranged by calling the Treasurer’s office at 231-777-2555. CASH PAYMENTS LEFT IN THE DROP BOX WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR PROCESSED.
  1. The Building Department will be available for inspections on all new construction projects. Arrangements can be made by calling the building department at 231-777-2555 ext. 1127. Building permits may also be sent via email.
  1. Rental Inspection operations will be cancelled beginning March 17, 2020.
  1. Public Safety will continue to operate in a regular manner for emergency services, but the Police Department and Fire Stations will be closed to the public. Routine fire inspections are cancelled and new construction inspections will be coordinated through the Fire Marshal.
  1. Sanitation services (trash pickup) will continue to operate on the regular schedule.

Muskegon Township will make every effort to conduct our business as effective and safely as possible in a non-person to person manner. Please be patient with us, and each other, as we all navigate this pandemic in the best way possible.

This notice is in effect as of March 16, 2020 and if further recommendations and requirements are issued by local, State, or Federal health officials, further action and notices will be posted to the Township website, official social media page, and on the outside of Township buildings.

For any further questions regarding operational changes please contact Township Supervisor Jennifer Hodges at 231-777-2555. Any healthcare related questions should be directed to the Muskegon County Health Department at 231-724-6246.

Muskegon Township Sanitation Customers

Effective May 18, 2020 Muskegon Township Sanitation will once again be picking up additional trash for sanitation customers. You must call ahead to have large or bulky items picked up. Please try to keep the additional trash to a minimum while sanitation staff navigates safety precautions (for instance changing gloves and re-sanitizing as needed). Delayed pickup times are anticipated as there will be more trash than usual. We thank you for your understanding and appreciate your patience as we have navigated this pandemic.
Spring Clean Up information will be announced soon.
